Adopted by President’s Cabinet 8/9/23
Technology is available to students for checkout at the East Georgia State College Library. Technology items include laptops, graphing calculators, scientific calculators, financial calculators, and Wi-Fi hotpots. These pieces of equipment are a shared resource, and as such, renewals for these items are not guaranteed.
Due to high demand and limited supply, technology loaned to students by the East Georgia State College Library is only available on a first-come, first-served basis. These items also circulate for one week (7 days) at a time. Renewals are dependent upon availability of the item. If a student requests an item that is not available, there is a waitlist they can be placed on, if they provide a working means of contact. They will be notified when an item becomes available and be given a deadline to pick it up or forfeit their hold on the item.
Patrons are financially responsible for damage to equipment that occurs while it is in their care. If equipment is lost, the patron is responsible for the cost of replacement.
All costs for item damages or item replacement must be paid to the East Georgia State College Business Office. If a borrower intends to purchase a replacement for a lost or stolen item they must first receive approval from Library staff. Once approval is received the new item must still be encased in the manufacturer’s packaging AND a purchase receipt must also be present.
Offsite Locations
Students from our off-site locations are also eligible to borrow technology from the East Georgia State College Library. Circulation differs from the standard one-week loan period. Augusta and Statesboro students have one month (30 days) as their loan periods. Statesboro students need to contact the IT department found in the Nessmith-Lane Building of Georgia Southern University’s campus, and students from the Augusta University campus need to contact the Academic Center for Excellence in Galloway Hall for access to these items.
Terms of Use
Patrons must be enrolled in courses offered by East Georgia State College to be eligible to borrow technological equipment from the Library.
All borrowers must sign a technology loan agreement that lists the loan(s) terms and conditions which are to:
-
- Abide by all EGSC Policies and Procedures when using equipment
- Provide credible means of contact such as their CatMail address and a viable telephone number.
- Agree to return equipment in good working order by the agreed due date and that failure to do so may result in a Library Banner Hold
- Agree to be responsible for the replacement/repair cost of an item that is stolen, lost, or damaged while in their care
Borrowers also agree to contact the East Georgia State College Library in the following situations:
-
- Technology is damaged, lost, or stolen.
- They cannot return the item(s) by the due date due to emergency.
Borrowers understand that repeated failure to return or renew technology will result in possible technology bans for the remainder of the academic semester and possibly future semesters.
Borrowers cannot install software on laptops.
Laptops must be returned regularly, and if available, exchanged for a different laptop to ensure that all items are receiving the necessary updates.
Banner Holds will be applied to borrower accounts if the technology is not returned or renewed in a timely manner, which will prevent course registration for any upcoming semesters and restrict any academic transcript request.
Banner Holds will be removed once the technology has been returned, renewed, or replaced.
If there are any extenuating circumstances that will delay the return or renewal of loaned items, the borrower must contact the Library staff for any accommodation to be considered.
Considerations for Technology Ban
Borrowers will be considered for a technology ban when:
-
- They have received three Banner Holds on their accounts from Library staff in a single semester.
- Technology is at least thirty days overdue, and no communication on the part of the borrower has been exchanged with the Library staff.
- Technology bans are contingent on individual circumstances and can last from two consecutive academic semesters or can be placed upon a patron’s library account permanently.
