Congratulations! You are preparing to graduate! The information below provides all the steps you’ll need to apply for graduation and to order your cap and gown for the ceremony. East Georgia State College will host one commencement ceremony on the Swainsboro campus in the gymnasium. Commencement will take place at the end of each spring semester. We strongly encourage you to participate in this milestone event. The College President, Provost, Faculty, and Staff are all ready to celebrate your achievements and would love to see you and your family at the commencement!
What should I do if I am planning to graduate?
-
- Review your DegreeWorks and consult with your advisor.
- Students are required to consult with their advisor at least once a semester to confirm that they are on track to satisfying all degree requirements for their program. Cap and Gown
Is there a Graduation Fee?
There is not a fee to submit your graduation application or to participate in the ceremony. However, all students are responsible for ordering and purchasing their cap and gown for the ceremony.
How do I order my Cap and Gown?
Cap and gown orders are completed through Herff Jones and are shipped to the students address. Students who miss the ordering deadline may be able to purchase their cap and gown through the college bookstore but please note, supplies may be limited. Contact the College Bookstore at 478-289-2098 for more detail information about your cap and gown ordering and deadlines.
Commencement Ceremony
Do I need tickets for invited guest?
EGSC does not use a ticketing system for commencement. Graduates will not need tickets for their guest. Seating is first come first served. We encourage you and your guests to arrive early for the ceremony as seating may become limited.
Will I graduate with Honors?
While students need an Institutional GPA of 2.0 to be eligible for degree completion, it is the overall/cumulative GPA (all coursework taken) that will be used to determine if you will graduate as an Honor graduate. Honor graduate categories are listed below:
-
-
- Students with a final overall cumulative GPA of no less than 3.5 - 3.79 will graduate cum laude.
- Students with a final overall cumulative GPA of 3.8 - 3.89 will graduate magna cum laude.
- Students with a final overall cumulative GPA of 3.9- 4.0 will graduate summa cum laude.
-
At the ceremony honor students are designated by various cords.
Honor designations are reflected on the students’ diplomas and academic transcripts.
Can I still get my degree if I am transferring before completing my last semester?
Some students may be eligible for a Reverse Transfer degree: Reverse transfer is the process which allows a student who completed coursework at EGSC and then transfer to another USG senior institution to combine college credits from both institutions to earn an associate degree while working towards your four-year degree.
To apply for a Reverse Transfer degree, a student must:
-
-
-
- Request an Official Transcript from your other USG institutions you have attended to be sent to East Georgia State College.
- Complete and submit the Reverse Transfer Graduation Application.
-
-
Reverse Transfer students are eligible to participate in the EGSC commencement ceremony.
*Students must meet the EGSC residency requirement by completing at least 17 credit
hours at EGSC.
*Students cannot have already earned an Associate degree from EGSC or the attending
four-year institution.
After Commencement
-
-
- Diplomas and academic transcripts are processed through a third party vendor – Parchment.
- After final grades are submitted to the registrar’s office and degrees have been awarded, Parchment will notify you via email with information on receiving your Diploma.
- Check your student email for an email from parchment to verify your address. Check your inbox and junk folder. You'll have 72 hours to verify your mailing address.
-
This step is crucial since we no longer handle in-house printing. Review your address carefully. Failure to verify within the timeframe may result in your diploma being sent to the pre-loaded address. Please note, incorrect addresses will require a reprint at your expense.
