East Georgia State College (EGSC) recently named Patrick Alexander the Interim Head Softball Coach for the Lady Bobcats. Coach Patrick Alexander (Coach Al) is originally from Southern California (Rancho Cucamonga, CA) and has over 25 years of coaching experience.
After completing high school, Alexander moved with his family to Tempe, Arizona. There he attended Mesa Community College playing both football and baseball while achieving his associate in arts degree in 1975. After some success, he earned a full scholarship to the University of Nevada-Reno (UNR) where he finished his final two years of eligibility playing baseball.
After his two years at UNR, Alexander was able to catch the eye of a few MLB Scouts. In 1978 he signed a Minor League contract with the San Francisco Giants. After five years in the league, he decided to retire his baseball dream to instead go back to Arizona to earn his college degree in secondary education at Arizona State University (ASU). Before graduating from ASU, he began his coaching career at Coronado High School in Scottsdale, Arizona, in 1984 coaching JV and varsity baseball.
Alexander graduated from ASU in 1986 and accepted his first teaching and coaching position at Carson Jr High School in Mesa, Arizona. He remained there for 28 years where he coached football, varsity baseball (Westwood, Mt. View and Skyline HS), softball, cross country, flag football, and track. He also was the department head, equipment manager, athletic trainer, and administrative assistant. At Carson he won seven City Championships.
Coach Alexander also achieved his master’s in education at ASU in 1995. His last two years of teaching and coaching was at Casteel High School in Chandler, Arizona. There he opened a new school coaching four sports.
In 2016 Alexander retired and he and his family moved to Jacksonville, Florida, to be closer to extended family. Coach Alexander and his wife, Storey, have a daughter named Summer who is a sophomore at EGSC. She plays first base for the Lady Bobcat Softball Team.
EGSC would like to welcome Coach Alexander to the Bobcat Family!
