The 2024 Miss East Georgia State College Scholarship Pageant was held Friday, April 12 in the Luck F. Gambrell Center Auditorium on the East Georgia State College (EGSC) Swainsboro campus. Marleigh Clark, a sophomore at EGSC, was named the new Miss East Georgia State College, and Laynah Atkinson was named first runner-up. Family and friends of the contestants, students, and the community attended the free event to support the contestants.
The five contestants competed for the crown in the categories of interview, introductions, on stage question, and evening gown. Each contestant selected a platform project they planned to complete during their rein if they were chosen to represent EGSC. For their platform, they organized a plan for volunteering and completion of the project that they presented to the judges.
Marleigh Clark is the 19-year-old daughter of Jessica Clark from Soperton, Georgia. She plans to graduate from EGSC with her associate of science degree and continue her education to become a nurse practitioner. Clark would one day love to work in pediatrics.
In her free time, Clark loves to sing and enjoys being outdoors. She also enjoys volunteering with City of Hope in Lauren’s County, which is her platform project for her year as Miss EGSC.
Laynah Atkinson, a freshman from Metter, Georgia, was first runner-up in the competition. Atkinson is the 18-year-old daughter of Lash and Jill Atkinson. She is pursuing a degree in early childhood education.
Miss EGSC 2023, Miriam Marlin, shared memories of her year during the event.
“Miriam has been a wonderful representative of East Georgia this past year. I know she will continue to be a great representative as she moves on to Georgia Southern in the fall,” said Harley Smith, Vice President for Institutional Advancement at EGSC. “I also look forward to the great things Marleigh will do this upcoming year. She is excited about her year of service and is ready to get started representing EGSC!”
The Miss EGSC Scholarship Pageant Committee would like to thank the many volunteers who helped make this year’s pageant a success. The committee would also like to thank Jim Roberts at Southern Traditions Floral and Gifts for providing the beautiful bouquets for the winners.
