𝙁𝙪𝙡𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙙 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙇𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝘾𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧. A red maple tree will be planted in memory of long time EGSC supporter Mr. Woodruff Denton “Denny” Key Jr.

Denny served on the Board of Trustees of the East Georgia State College Foundation for more than 20 years. During his time as Chair of the Foundation, Denny’s leadership provided direction for the college to grow and expand while still holding true to the strong roots that anchor the mission of providing a quality education at an affordable price to all. He had a vision for the future that supported new ideas and innovation. Denny was always willing to go the extra mile to see that EGSC was successful.

Denny was also the chairman of the Mill Creek Foundation for many years. The Mill Creek Foundation has partnered with EGSC on numerous initiatives, and Denny played a large part in establishing those partnerships.

Amber graduated in December with her Associate of Business Administration degree and has decided to continue her education in the Bachelor of Business Administration program at EGSC.

EGSC Update:

After evaluating campus and area conditions, the Swainsboro campus will return to normal, in-person operations tomorrow, Friday, January 24, but with modified hours. Campus will be open from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., to allow more flexibility and to give the roads a few more hours to dry out. These hours will hold for all Swainsboro classes and on-campus functions/activities.

Supervisors, please work with any staff or faculty on an individual basis if they are unable to report to work for any reason. Faculty and staff in Augusta and Statesboro will continue to follow any guidance given by Augusta University and Georgia Southern University.

For students and staff on campus, dining services will be open today from 1:30-3:30 p.m. for ‘To-Go’ options and will re-open at 10 a.m. on Friday.

EGSC Update:

Given that nearly 5 inches of snow has fallen in and around Emanuel County in the last 24 hours, freezing and below-freezing temperatures remain in the forecast, and road conditions remain unclear, the EGSC Swainsboro campus will continue with virtual operations and teaching through the close of business on Thursday, January 23. Only essential personnel should report to campus under direction of their supervisors.

No College-sponsored events in Swainsboro will take place through Thursday, January 23.

A decision on Friday operations will be made tomorrow, based on weather, road, power, and public safety conditions in the next 24 hours. We will send an update by early afternoon Thursday confirming Friday operations.

All faculty, staff, and students associated with the Georgia Southern University and Augusta University locations will continue to follow any weather-related directives from those entities.

Please stay off of the roads if at all possible, follow any guidelines provided by public safety and emergency management entities in the region, keep cell phones charged, and reach out to us if we can be of assistance.

Updated food service and food pantry operation hours for EGSC Swainsboro will be shared later today.

EGSC Update from President Schecter:

The Swainsboro campus will move to all remote work except for essential employees for Tuesday, January 21 and Wednesday, January 22. This means all faculty should move their classes to an online format for these two days and all staff should be working regular hours and be available to their colleagues and students during those two days.

As always in emergency management situations, Statesboro and Augusta locations will follow guidance issued by those respective schools (Georgia Southern & Augusta University).

Students, if you are away from campus today, we urge you to stay put and not travel to campus until conditions improve late Wednesday. Those students already on campus, we encourage you to return home, if you are able. If you are enroute to campus, there will be access to the dorms and dining services through Tuesday and Wednesday, but no guests will be allowed in the dorms over those two days. Any student traveling should ensure they have a full tank of gas before hitting the road, as access to fuel could be jeopardized this week, as we saw with the September hurricane. All students should look for communications from their faculty on how their classes will be handled and attend virtually to keep up with the work assignments.

Please note that road conditions can be hazardous. Keep your electronics fully charged in case of power outages, and let’s show each other grace and care as we get through this latest storm together.
